Most people believe that they can’t do anything to improve their financial well-being. But it’s actually that exact mindset that prevents them from doing so.
Let’s be honest. Making money is by no means easy.
If it were, most people would already be wealthy right now.
The thought of making more money probably crossed your mind plenty of times already, just like everyone else.
But, are you achieving that?
Or do you find yourself stuck in a loop of browsing other people’s social media posts about how they’re living in opulence and success, wishing that someday you’ll be just like them?
And you’re frustrated that it seems to still be a faraway dream, no matter how hard you focus on increasing your wealth.
Believe it or not, there’s a reason for that.
Your guilt and self-doubt drive you to negative thoughts. In turn, those thoughts manifest in a way that prevents you from taking that essential step forward.
The first thing that you need to do is to overcome these mental barriers. Once you do this, you’ll realize that you’ve been the saboteur of your own success all along.
Take a look at these tips that should help you break through the mental barrier that’s keeping you from where you’d like to be.
Tip #1 – Take Care of Yourself
Gandhi once said, “It is health that is real wealth. Not pieces of gold and silver.”
If you’re not taking care of your well-being, you won’t have the energy to think positive thoughts. In fact, most of our negativity stems from our insecurities and unhappiness.
A lot of people attempt to get rich at all costs. But are they truly happy? They grind and hustle for more money. After a while, the dreaded burn-out is just around the corner.
You’re better off taking the opposite approach. First, protect your biggest asset, which is your mental and physical health. Only then will you be able to channel your positive energy.
Having positive energy allows you to think straight and see clearly. It gets your creative juices flowing, which helps you to make realistic and exciting plans. Your drive attracts other people that will follow you along the way.
This all starts with you shifting focus from making money to making yourself healthy. Keep yourself in top shape by exercising and train your mind with meditation and mindfulness, techniques.
Make sure to eat healthy and use your free time to relieve yourself of life’s worries.
You’ll quickly notice the tides turning to your advantage.
Tip #2 – Define Your Purpose
Most people mistakenly think that making money is the ultimate goal. Except it isn’t.
The truth is that success comes as a natural consequence of you following your purpose. It’s the result of having a clearly defined path that you’re willing to follow through.
For example, if your sole motivation is making money, it won’t be enough to keep the fire going. You’re bound to lose your spark and you may end up feeling worse than before.
But there’s something else that can push you to the limit of your possibilities. In business, only those who have a clear vision can stand the test of time.
You need to find a purpose for what you’re doing and the money will come.
It’s just like any other aspect of your life. If you know why you’re doing something, you’ll attract happiness or success, or both.
On the other hand, if you question your every step, it’s going to be challenging to focus on what you’re doing.
Therefore, the solution is simple. Define your goals and find meaning in your journey. Also, understand that you’ll probably have to soldier through rough patches along the way.
It will take time and patience to get to where you’ve always wanted to be.
Tip #3 – Stop Thinking That You're The Victim
I am the victim of my circumstances. I’ve never had money so I can’t be rich. It’s so much easier to be one of those who were born into wealth.
Do these thoughts sound very familiar to you? If so, you may be guilty of having a victim mentality.
And such a mindset isn’t going to get you very far.
Of course, it’s easier to invest the money you have to make more. But there are also many real-life rags to riches stories. Through sheer determination and courage, people can come from humble beginnings and achieve great things.
The victim mentality will only serve to keep you in one place. And in the current climate, stagnation is the same as regression. Don’t let that happen to you.
It’s up to you to rise above the defeatist mindset. Use your circumstances as guidance. Learn to appreciate the little things along your path.
You have to understand that money is a symptom of your chosen path. If you know where you want to be, you won’t have to chase after it.
Success will come as if by destiny.
Tip #4 – Avoid Conformity
Think about the successful people who appear in the cover pages and all over the internet.
What are their stories?
Did they stay in their comfort zone their entire life?
Of course not.
They were brave enough to make their ideas come true. Some were already rich, while others came from nothing. But they have something in common, and that’s their willingness to go after their ambition.
They are the ones who don’t worry about public rejection. They don’t care about what others think. The current trends mean nothing to them because they’re looking to set trends of their own.
You need to have this kind of mindset.
If you have an idea, don’t be afraid to pursue it. Ignore the naysayers and focus on what you think best.
Elon Musk said:
“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favour.”
Look how it has turned out for Musk. So if you believe it’s the right thing to do, you should do it.
If you allow your present circumstances and other people to dictate your decisions, you’re not going to progress. You’re just going with whatever everyone else is doing. But, instead of being a follower, you can be a leader.
Tip #5 – Surround Yourself With Positivity
Everything that you’ve read so far will only work if the environment supports them.
If everyone around you is negative and disruptive all the time, they’ll transfer that mindset over to you. And unless it’s part of your personality to go against the grain, you’ll most likely succumb to it.
If your social circle despises successful people and talk down anything positive, something’s wrong.
As Albert Einstein said:
“Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution.”
On the other hand, imagine that you spend your day in the company of cheerful and energetic people. You exchange ideas, and you drive each other to be better tomorrow than you are today.
Surround yourself with visionaries and non-conformists. With people who take care of themselves and want to make the world a better place.
First, they’ll open you to things that you didn’t even know were possible. Their constant thirst to learn new things will arouse your curiosity.
You’ll make a habit of working hard and achieving your goals.
